What all nine casinos have in common

Before the glyphs start to differ, the nine casinos of Metro Vancouver share a set of rules and services. This page lists the ones that hold for all nine, from the age limit to the Encore Rewards card.

At the door

Every casino in British Columbia sets the same age: 19 or older. People under 19 may not enter a gambling venue. The same limit covers lottery tickets, online gambling and charitable events.

Starting June 26, 2023, anyone who comes into a BC casino presents government-issued photo ID. Security runs the ID through a scanner and matches it to the list of barred entrants, which includes Game Break enrollees. Nothing personal is kept by the system about those admitted. On a glyph this rule has no mark, because it is the same at all nine.

In North America, BC was the first jurisdiction to make ID a condition of entry at casino doors.

The loyalty card

All nine casinos in this guide list Encore Rewards as their loyalty programme. The programme name is the same at each of them, from Parq in Vancouver to Cascades Casino Langley.

At Grand Villa Casino Burnaby, membership is free, and enrolment is at Guest Services with valid ID. Parq handles enrolment at Guest Services on Level 2.

Smoke-free air and on-site help

BC law bans smoking and vaping inside casinos. The ban also covers the area within 6 m of doors, windows and air intakes.

Every casino in British Columbia has a GameSense Advisor for people experiencing harm from gambling. That holds for all nine casinos in this guide, from Starlight Casino New Westminster to Cascades Casino Langley.

What the glyphs show instead

None of the rules above appears on a glyph, because the marks are there to show what differs. Floor hours are published for 7 of the nine, four of them 24 hours a day, and table hours for 4. Of the nine, 6 have a poker room and 5 have a hotel on site or adjoining. Racebooks or simulcast racing appear at 4, and 4 have a transit hub within 1 km. Drag one glyph onto another and those differences stay lit.

Questions about the marks

Is the minimum age the same at all nine casinos?

The age is 19 or older at every one of them, as it is for all gambling in BC. People under 19 may not enter a gambling venue.

Does every casino scan ID at the door?

Every BC casino has done so since June 26, 2023. Each government-issued photo ID goes through a security scan, then is matched against the restricted-entry list. Personal information is not stored for anyone who is allowed in.

Does one loyalty card work at all nine?

All nine casinos in this guide list Encore Rewards as their loyalty programme. Whether one card is accepted at all nine is a question for each casino.
